Address: Erowal Bay, New South Wales
And while I now live just a stone’s throw from the ocean, having grown up on a diet of both films and books set by the water – though albeit with slightly more serene settings than Sydney’s polished Eastern Suburbs – I’ve always longed for a tranquil cottage by the sea, in which I can while away my days, sitting on a porch chair, with nothing but books and cups of coffee to keep me company.
An idyllic staycation on Sydney’s southern coast, The Writer’s Loft has everything and more you could want from a weekend getaway – endless books to read, a picture perfect setting, peace and tranquillity in spades and all the creature comforts of a home away from home.
While beautiful all-year round, we opted to visit The Writer’s Loft as summer’s sweltering sun made way for autumn’s cooler climes, and by the time we arrived in late afternoon, the setting sun had left a fresh chill in the air, and the surrounding streets were almost silent. A perfect fusion of stylish yet relaxed décor, the home comprises of a beautiful open plan kitchen and living area, a sumptuous bedroom with a four-poster bed, a sleek and stylish bathroom, a cosy reading room and an outdoor deck, perfect for soaking up the autumn sun. Laced with literature throughout – from the groaning bookshelves in reading room, to the stack of books on the bedside table and beyond, The Writer’s Loft is the perfect sort of place for anyone with a penchant for reading and writing, and offers an idyllic locale for anyone wanting to explore the nearby beaches and bushwalks.
Writers Loft is located in the quiet little village of Erowal Bay, part of the beautiful Jervis Bay area of NSW. It is a 3-hour leisurely drive from Sydney, during which you may like to take in some of the sights of the beautiful NSW South Coast, such as Kiama, Berry and Gerringong. Once you arrive at the house, Hyams Beach with the ‘Whitest Sand in the World’ is only 5 minutes away by car, and Booderee National Park just 10 minutes’ drive away.

Useful Information About The Writer’s Loft
Just a stone’s throw from the water, we spent mornings drinking coffee on the porch, before padding down to the bay, to watch the sun glisten across the lake-like water. And while we were keen to visit the neighbouring beaches – we wanted to spend as much time at The Writer’s Loft as we could, so after a quick morning swim and brunch in nearby Huskisson, we spent our afternoons on the outdoor deck, lounging in the sun and barbequing salty slabs of haloumi and colourful vegetable skewers, reading and writing and bathing in the silence and serenity so unlike Bondi.
