A simple yet layered story that is powerful, poignant, tender and touching, and – above all – redemptive, For One More Day is a wonderful tale of the power of love and the importance of forgiveness. For One More Day Book Review

The sort of book that you know is going to be a tear-jerker from the moment you start it, For One More Day tells the tale of Charley ‘Chick’ Benetto, whose life is in ruins. After a failed suicide attempt, he gets to spend one more day with his late mother, and, via a series of flashbacks and a wistful journey which encounters a strange and enigmatic tryst with the ghost of the past, the heartbreaking tale unfolds.
Mitch Albom’s other books include Tuesdays with Morrie, The Five People You Meet in Heaven and Have a Little Faith.
As a child, Charley “Chick” Benetto was told by his father, “You can be a mama’s boy or a daddy’s boy, but you can’t be both.” So he chooses his father, only to see the man disappear when Charley is on the verge of adolescence.

For One More Day is the story of a mother and a son, and a relationship that covers a lifetime and beyond. It explores the question: What would you do if you could spend one more day with a lost loved one?
Mitchell David Albom is an author, journalist, screenwriter, playwright, radio and television broadcaster and musician. His books have collectively sold over 35 million copies worldwide; have been published in forty-one territories and in forty-two languages around the world; and have been made into Emmy Award-winning and critically-acclaimed television movies.
What follows is the one “ordinary” day so many of us yearn for, a chance to make good with a lost parent, to explain the family secrets, and to seek forgiveness. Somewhere between this life and the next, Charley learns the astonishing things he never knew about his mother and her sacrifices. And he tries, with her tender guidance, to put the crumbled pieces of his life back together. The first book I read of Mitch Albom’s was The Five People You Meet in Heaven. My recollection of it is hazy; I think I read it back when I was a teenager, and I have a vague memory of either my step-dad or step-brother recommending it to me, though I could be making that up completely. I have a better recollection of Tuesdays with Morrie – I book whose movie adaptation I enjoyed almost as much as the novel that inspired it. Suffice it to say it’s been well over a decade since I last read anything of Albom’s, and so when my friend David Wade bought a copy of For One More Day from beautiful Bouquiniste Book Café while en route back from my birthday getaway in nearby Broughton Vale, I soon after borrowed it.
