Stylish Stays: Luxico Byron Bay

I’ve made no secret about my sometimes neurotic love for Byron Bay over the years. Ever since I first visited in April 2016 for the coastal town’s annual Bluesfest, I’ve made many-a bi-monthly pilgrimage to the picture perfect coastal town, to the detriment of both my bank account and my desire to see almost anywhere else in Australia. And while I’ve lost count of the number of sojourns I’ve made to Byron, every time I visit, I find something new to fall in love with.

Provisioned to five-star standards by your very own concierge, with all the extra touches, you’re assured of more than just a home stay. Whether you stay for 2 nights or 2 weeks, Luxico’s ‘home hotel’ service is designed to make short stays more than just a holiday.

From the Mornington Peninsula to Byron Bay’s sweeping hinterland, Luxico offers discerning travellers the opportunity to stay in some of Australia’s most opulent and beautiful homes, in locations including the Southern Highlands, the Sunshine Coast and Sydney’s northern beaches.

Luxico exclusively manages the best hand-picked and home-grown Australian holiday villas across 6 destinations (and counting). Just 1 in 8 homes that apply make the Luxico list. If they’re not beautifully furnished, filled with character and in a great location, you won’t find them listed.

Towards the end of last year, I left Sydney to get my head down for a forthcoming visa application. Much as I love Bondi – and love it I do – its village-like vibes means that it’s almost impossible to turn a corner without bumping into a familiar face, and the subsequent distractions are often endless. A friend of mine was driving to Byron after spending the weekend with me, and so I threw a couple of bikinis, a handful of books, two beach dresses and very little else into a bag, planning on returning a few days later, when said visa application was complete. And while I initially booked into a lakeside Airbnb tucked away in a quiet street in Suffolk Park for a few nights, the pull to stay in Byron quickly took hold, and a three day break later turned into a six week stay, by which point Byron was almost impossible to leave.
For me, the best thing about Costa Rica – aside from the location, stunning interiors and home away from home vibe – was the freestanding outdoor bath, that sat next to a copper shower on the garden’s back deck. Towards the end of my time at Costa Rica, the weather took a turn for the worse, and when the grey clouds loomed low overhead, I took the opportunity to sink into the outdoor bubble bath – book in hand – imbued with the fragrance of the hanging jasmine, and lit by the festoon lights that twinkled against the inky night sky.

Useful information about Luxico

A truly idyllic haven, the home has four bedrooms, a gorgeous garden studio, a lap pool, heated spa, and stylish interiors in each and every room. The garden itself was undoubtedly my favourite part of the home, and while the home is just a short stroll from the hustle and bustle of central Byron, the colourful palms and exotic feature plants really make it feel like you’re in an exotic oasis, miles from reality.

After about three weeks into my time in Byron, I was lucky enough to stay at Costa Rica – a hand-picked and homegrown Australian villa just a stone’s thrown from Byron’s Top Shop cafe. A stunning 1920s cottage that is the perfect fusion of luxury and character, the home benefits from a number of heritage touches throughout – from the high ceilings and original floors to ornate cornices and fretwork to coloured windows and feature fireplace, and it offers its guests the crème de la crème of luxury living in one of the best spots in Byron.
