My thoughts
A peaceful Christmas in Serenity Bay? Think again!
Chloe Walsh’s skills as location manager for the beautiful seaside village she calls home have come up trumps again, and Serenity Bay is now the setting for cosy crime drama The Montgomery Mysteries, starring amateur sleuth Dominic Montgomery and his crime-solving dog, Agatha.
But Chloe is in a race against time. Filming has to finish before the village Midwinter Festival but schedules are tight – and a mystery saboteur is intent on slowing things down even further. Not only is Chloe facing problems with the shoot, she also has some personal conundrums to solve – a diva actor has commandeered her flat, her mum is having a late mid-life crisis, plus she has no idea what to buy for her Christmas-obsessed boyfriend!
Can Chloe sort out her life and save Christmas for an entire village?

There are some great characters in the books such as Chloe’s mum who seems to be having a midlife crisis and ‘finding herself’ at Serenity Bay and Maggie, the pub landlady who once again brought a lot of smiles to my face. Agatha, the crime-fighting dog on the tv show definitely deserves an honourable mention!
I’m reviewing the second book in the Serenity Bay series by Helen Bridgett today. I really loved the first book and commented in my review that I would love to visit Serenity Bay if it was a real place. Helen Bridgett was one of the authors I featured in my #AuthorInTheFestiveSpotlight recently. You can read all about her Christmas traditions and favourites here. So how was my festive visit to Serenity Bay? Read on to find out what I thought.
Chloe and Andy’s relationship was sharply in focus in this book and some jealousy and misunderstandings made for interesting reading. It was quite amusing to follow Chloe’s dilemma as she wondered not only what Andy was going to get her for Christmas and what would be a suitable gift to give him for their first Christmas together.
Christmas at Serenity Bay is a lovely festive read with a good blend of intrigue, community spirit, challenges, friendship and, of course, romance. Once again Serenity Bay sounds like a lovely place to live and with the Midwinter festival, it’s got plenty of Christmas atmosphere going on too!
About the Book
Helen writes romantic comedies and chilling thrillers.
One thing I really enjoyed about this book was finding out what it’s like behind the scenes on a tv shoot for the cosy mystery series being filmed at Serenity Bay. I had to feel for Chloe as she had to deal with diva actors (just why did ‘Dominic’ insist on people using his character name all the time?), vital props mysteriously disappearing, extras not turning up and trying to make sure that things didn’t run over time which would mean the village Midwinter Festival being delayed.
Helen Bridgett lives in the North East of England. Outside of writing feel good fiction, Helen loves the great outdoors and having a good laugh with friends over a glass of wine. Helen lives with her husband and their chocolate Labrador, Angus; all three can often be found walking the Northumberland coastline that inspired Summer at Serenity Bay.
