100 Remarkable Feats of Xander Maze Book Review

#1 Heartbreaking
Buy 100 Remarkable Feats of Xander Maze from Book Depository, Amazon or Amazon AU. The very best thing about being a book blogger – without exception – is the people I’ve met that I otherwise wouldn’t have; and Clay – owner of Bouquiniste and author of 100 Remarkable Feats of Xander Maze – is without a doubt one of the nicest people I’ve met off the back of my blog. It was en route back to Sydney after a birthday break in Broughton Vale that I popped in to Bouquiniste  – the beautiful bookstore café in Kiama that Clay owns – and he was kind enough to gift me a signed copy of his then soon-to-be-released YA novel, 100 Remarkable Feats of Xander Maze. And while it took me a number of months to get around to reading it; as with many things in life, it was well worth the wait.

and a book about defying the odds, not accepting the unacceptable, and one boy’s unconditional love for his nanna.
Brimming with soul and spirit, 100 Remarkable Feats of Xander Maze is a gorgeous literary offering and a perfect reminder of why we should all be looking beyond the bounds of our usual reading constraints for our next best read.
Xander Maze loves lists, and his grandmother is #1 in his list of People I Love Most in the World. But now that Nanna has stage 4 cancer, can a new list of 100 Remarkable Feats really save her life?
Particularly when his list contains difficult things like #2 Make a Friend and #3 Make a Best Friend.

While YA isn’t a genre I tend to read, as Clay mentioned on my podcast, 100 Remarkable Feats of Xander Maze has been read – and loved – by a wide range of book lovers; and I knew as soon as I started it that I’d join the ever-growing group of adoring fans. The perfect lockdown read that offers a much-needed dose of nostalgia, poignancy and escapism – and given that I have more time on my hands than ever before to read – I spent a sunny Saturday afternoon curled up on my window seat enchanted by the charming story of Xander Maze; a young boy on a quest to save his Nana’s life.

A story that is filled with heart and hope, 100 Remarkable Feats of Xander Maze will resonate with anyone who’s ever been a teenager, as the book takes its readers to a time of first kisses, first jobs, the angst and agony of teenage years and so much more besides. Set against a Sydney backdrop, there was so much I loved about this book: the humorous yet moving story telling; the adorable cast of characters; and the utter love and adoration Xander has for his beloved nana.
