Both of You by Adele Parks – #audiobook #bookreview – @HQStories

Same week, different world … Kai Janssen leaves her sexy, wealthy husband and their luxurious penthouse, and vanishes into thin air.
Well, what can I say about this book? Actually, not very much! It’s the kind of book you are best to know not very much about before you start reading. You can read the official summary of the book below but basically it’s about two women who go missing around the same time. While the police investigate, they discover a connection between the disappearances. Much of the plot takes place in March 2020 and we all know what happened then! The pandemic isn’t a main feature of the plot though, but is alluded to and to a certain extent affects how the police investigation goes.
Adele has written 19 contemporary novels and 2 historical ones, Spare Brides and If You Go Away, which are set during and after WW1. Her latest novels, Both of You, Just My Luck, Lies Lies Lies, I Invited Her In, The Image of You and The Stranger in My Home are twisty, domestic noirs. Adele likes to scrutinize our concepts of family, our theories on love, parenting and fidelity.
Leigh Fletcher, devoted wife and stepmum, goes to work one day and never returns home.
During her career Adele has lived in Italy, Botswana and London. Now she lives happily in Surrey, UK with her husband, son and cat.
About the book
DC Clements wants answers. Did these women run away or were they taken? Most importantly, where are they now? When the detective discovers a shocking link between the missing women, it’s clear the truth can devastate. Now Clements must work against a ticking clock, before both wives disappear forever.
Adele Parks MBE is one of the most-loved and biggest-selling women’s fiction writers in the UK. She has sold over 4 million books and her work has been translated into 30 different languages.
I listened to this as an audiobook and I raced through it in less than a week, which is quick for me. I was absolutely gripped by the book and couldn’t imagine where the story would go. With the narrative being told from the points of view of the wives, the husbands, friends and the police, it was really fast paced as the focus moved from one character to another.
Both husbands seem distraught, claiming they have no idea where their wives have gone.
This is a book which kept me guessing right up to the end. I didn’t know who could be believed, who could be trusted and I just had to keep listening to find out. This is a clever book with many unexpected twists and a plot which will keep you hooked from start to finish. And oh that ending!
If you like the sound of this book, it’s one you’ll find on many supermarket shelves as well as in bookshops. Or, of course, it’s available for e-readers too. Be warned though, make sure you have plenty time for reading because once you start, I think you’ll find it hard to put this one down!
